Finavera Renewables Inc.
Finavera Renewables Inc. is dedicated to the development of renewable energy resources and technologies. The Company’s objective is to become a major renewable and green energy producer by developing and operating its assets in the wind and wave energy sectors.

Finavera Renewables Inc. is developing the licensed and patented ‘AquaBuOY’ wave energy technology, a device that is based on proven and sustainable buoy technology. The Company is developing wave energy projects for AquaBuOY use in the United States, Portugal, South Africa and Canada. The Company is also developing other wind energy projects in Canada and Ireland. In Canada, a two stage 150 MW project is being developed in Alberta. Construction on this advance stage project is estimated to begin in 2008 and provides for near term revenue. In British Columbia, four projects totaling 366 MW have been entered into the provincial Environmental Assessment process, and several other sites are being developed. In Ireland, two pre-construction wind projects are under development with a potential capacity of 175MW. Data collection and environmental studies have been continuing at a number of sites in both countries.

The Co-Operative Auto Network
When is a car like a library book?

We all know how great a library is right? Instead of buying a book you can take out any book you want or need – and return it when you’re through. It’s a time honoured way to save money, and improve everyone’s access to the wealth a book brings. It’s actually better than that – lending libraries spread out the environmental impact of producing that book - the trees cut, the energy, the ink - among a larger group of readers.

At the Co-operative Auto Network (CAN) – we do this with cars! CAN is a not-for-profit (local and Canadian!) car sharing organization. We have a large collection of vehicles (cars, trucks, mini vans, mini coopers...) that are available to registered drivers on a first come - first serve basis. Each driver chooses from an on-line menu for the best car for the trip, then brings it back for the next person to use – sharing the access and expense while saving 1.2 tonnes of CO2 each per year!

Tides Canada
We are Canada's first and only national public foundation focused on the environment, social justice, and innovation in the non-profit sector. Since start-up in December 2000, we've granted nearly $36 million to environmental and social justice charitable organizations. Our Sage Centre carries out some of the leading environmental and social justice charitable initiatives in Canada and on the planet.

Tides Canada Signature Projects:

  • The Climate Change Solutions Fund supports strategic programs that address global warming such as the distribution of Al Gore's “An Inconvenient Truth” to public high schools in Ontario and British Columbia.
  • The Social Justice Fund supports innovative work that targets the root causes of social justice issues in Canada such as affordable housing in Toronto.
  • The Great Bear Rainforest Campaign – Tides Canada leads the national fundraising, and supports scientific research and coalition-building among Canada’s leading environmental organizations central to the conservation of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest.

David Suzuki Foundation
Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. Focusing on four program areas – oceans and sustainable fishing, climate change and clean energy, sustainability, and the Nature Challenge - the Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that conserve nature and help achieve sustainability within a generation.

Climate Change and Clean Energy
http://www.davidsuzuki.org/Climate_Change/

Meeting humanity's energy needs without dangerously interfering with the global climate system is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. For the sake of future generations, it is a challenge we must meet. Our climate change and clean energy program promotes sustainable solutions to our energy needs, from renewable sources like wind and solar power, to energy efficiency and improved public transportation. Adopting these solutions will help clean our air, improve our health, slow global warming and boost our economy.

Greenpeace Canada
Greenpeace is an independently funded organization that works to protect the environment. We challenge government and industry to halt harmful practices by negotiating solutions, conducting scientific research, introducing clean alternatives, carrying out peaceful acts of civil disobedience and educating and engaging the public.

Greenpeace seeks to:

  • Protect biodiversity in all its forms
  • Prevent pollution of the Earth’s oceans, land, air and fresh water
  • End all nuclear threats
  • Promote peace, global disarmament and non-violence.

Offsetters Climate Neutral Society
Offsetters Climate Neutral Society is a not-for-profit organization registered in Canada. It was founded in 2005 by two professors from the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at the University of Oxford and the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia.

Offsetters differentiates itself on:

Quality: Offsetters projects are verified by third parties as generating additional, permanent reductions in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.; and

Efficiency: Our lean administration and operating cost structure ensure that a large part of your purchase goes directly into projects. In 2006, we retained just 20% of the funds received to cover our operating expenses. This is one of the lowest overhead rates in the industry.

Salt Spring Coffee Company
Since 1996 Salt Spring Coffee has been BC’s Original Ethically Responsible Coffee Company. Mickey McLeod and Robbyn Scott built their business around a passion for a great cup of coffee, on a foundation of strong values. Dedicated to the art of fresh roasting top-grade, shade grown, arabica coffee, Salt Spring Coffee is a Certified Organic and Certified Fair Trade micro- roaster, still located on Salt Spring Island, where none of this is surprising!

The exciting NEW news is that in March of 2007, Salt Spring Coffee became Canada’s first Carbon Neutral Coffee Company! The Company purchased BC Hydro Green Energy Certificates to offset electricity use, and purchased green-e certified renewable energy offsets from the non-profit Carbon Fund.org Foundation to offset emissions across its entire operations.

Salt Spring Coffee Company launched it’s “Carbon Cool” initiative and a new Carbon Cool Blend of coffee at EPIC Sustainable Living Expo in Vancouver, and has donated over $2000 from coffee sales to David Suzuki’s Climate change program since then.

BC NDP
Carole James and the NDP team believe that everyone matters. That’s why the NDP is working to make sure ordinary British Columbians can count on quality health care when they need it, educational opportunities to help our kids get ahead, dignity and care for our seniors, a clean and healthy environment for generations to come, and a share in the benefits of a strong and sustainable economy. Carole James and the NDP are working to hold the Gordon Campbell Liberals accountable and speaking out for the people who don't have a voice in the Campbell government.

The Western Canada Wilderness Committee
The Western Canada Wilderness Committee was founded in BC in 1980, and is now the largest membership-based, citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization in Canada. We are passionate about saving wilderness and wildlife, and in all of our work we are inspired and informed by the wild places we seek to protect.
